For today’s prompt, pick a word–and only one word–you might use to get someone’s attention; make that word the title of your poem; and then, write your poem. Possible titles might include: “Hey,” “Stop,” “Fire,” “Surrender,” “Attention,” “Wait,” and so on. For our house, the word “bacon” often does the trick.

Here’s my attempt at an Attention Word poem:

“Boo”

There’s nothing to fear but fear itself,
though I can make you jump
off of the floor to the highest shelf
with a series of thumps:
one on the ceiling, two at the door–
with not a thing in view–
and as you relax, add one thump more
followed up with a, “Boo!”
